Location

Audenshaw is located in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, and is in the District Assembly area of Denton and Audenshaw. Audenshaw is covered by the parliamentary constituency of Denton and Reddish where Andrew Gwynne (Labour) is the MP.

History

Audenshaw was originally a Hamlet, one of the four areas of the old parish of Ashton. It was predominately a rural area containing few houses and very little industry. There are few old houses left within Audenshaw due to the creation of three reservoirs between 1877-1882.

However Audenshaw soon progressed into an industrial area which was predominately focused around mining. Once the coal slump set in years later, Audenshaw, just like the rest of Tameside, moved towards the engineering and light industry.

Crest

The crest of Audenshaw illustrates its former industrial nature through the pickaxe and millwheels. The split red and white sections are representative of Audenshaw's proximity to both Yorkshire and Lancashire.

The motto underneath the crest, which was granted in 1950 "Festina Lente" is roughly translated as 'Make haste slowly - do not be impetuous'.
