Press release from Andrew Gwynne MP regarding the closure of Denton Road Post Office:

Reacting to the announcement that Denton Road Post Office in Audenshaw is to close Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“This is a regretful consequence of the Post Office’s network review programme, which is reducing the Post Office network because of dwindling custom. I am saddened that Denton Road is down for closure although I acknowledge that Audenshaw Post Office is very close by; which is the reason given by Post Office Limited for the closure.”

“This closure brings Denton, Audenshaw and Dukinfield to the minimum network standard, having suffered from a small number of Post Office closures in 2005, as well as a larger number of closures under the previous Conservative Government.”

“We need to build up Post Office custom, and that means we need to make sure the Government gives business to the Post Office that people want to use, and that people have easy access to.”

“I very much support the Government’s £1.7 Billion investment subsidy of the Post Office network which will put the network on a more stable financial footing until 2011. But the message has to be ‘use it or lose it’.”

There is a consultation exercise taking place up until October and I would encourage local people concerned about the closure of Denton Road Post Office to write to:

National Consultation Team

Post Office Ltd

FREEPOST CONSULTATION TEAM

or call 08457 22 33 44 or email online at www.postoffice.co.uk/networkchange.

Andrew Gwynne MP continued:

“I will always fight to make sure my constituents have good access to Post Office services, and that those services are the ones that people need and want to use.”

Lib Dem's Living Wall Dies a Fatal Death (Oct/05)

We all feel so sorry for the residents in and around the Snipe area of Audenshaw who have to put up with a monstrosity of a wall! The ‘living ’ wall that one of the Lib Dem Councillors insisted was put in place unfortunately seems to have died a horrible death with the only sign of life being the dirt at the bottom of it. Your local Audenshaw Lib Dem councillors who had this wall erected as of yet have not come to its rescue and resuscitated it!  We think its time that they did!

(Pictured, Andrew Gwynne MP with Colin White in front of the 'Living' Wall)

Audenshaw Library Closure- UPDATE(Oct/05)

It has now been confirmed that Audenshaw Library WILL CLOSE. We feel let down by the Audenshaw Councillors. Rather than campaigning and fighting to the end, they came to an agreement with the Council to move a CATALOGUE OF BOOKS into Ryecroft Hall. This simply is not acceptable. Their lack of adequate campaigning could be seen as the main reason for its closure. Audenshaw is the only town in Tameside not to have a Labour Councillor, and it is also the only town in Tameside to actually lose a book service such as the library. This would not have happened if a Labour Councillor had been representing Audenshaw.

The Lib Dems could have done a lot more than a petition! They have sold out the residents of Audenshaw by doing 'deals' behind our backs!

(Pictured Left, Colin White in front of the closing Library)

Audenshaw Library Closure July/05)

As many of you may by now know, Audenshaw Library has been earmarked for closure along with Hyde library. The members of the Audenshaw Ward Labour party have fought against the closure of the library and continue to do so. We want answers from the council and we will not stop until we get them! The library was a service used by many people, lots of which cannot travel to other libraries. We believe that a library is a vital service that the community should have. Although the council has proposed to move some books and computers into Ryecroft Hall, this is not acceptable! We will fight the closure of the library all the way!

Update- Stamford Road Planning Permission (Aug,Sept/05)

The two planning applications for the below mentioned plans have now been withdrawn!

As many of you may already know, there are plans to demolish the building at 173 Stamford Road and replace it with a apartment block. We believe that such a scheme should not be allowed to take place! The flats may spoil the aesthetic appeal of Audenshaw and particularly Stamford Road.

The Audenshaw Labour Party, along with the residents of Stamford Road are extremely concerned about these plans and do not want them to go ahead!
